On the occasion of the International Day of Social Work, EUROCEF would like to express its deep gratitude to all social workers who work tirelessly, night and day, to improve living conditions, defend fundamental rights, protect people in vulnerable situations, and promote respect for differences and human dignity.
These "social foot soldiers" (Pierre Bourdieu's expression) are directly confronted with the harshest social realities (precariousness, exclusion, violence). Through their daily commitments in the field, they embody the fundamental values of solidarity, social justice and respect for human rights.
In a context marked by profound social, economic and political changes, as well as by transnational challenges such as wars, migration or the growing precariousness linked to the decrease in aid, the role of social work professionals is more essential than ever.
EUROCEF thus reaffirms the need to fully recognise, support and value these professions, by guaranteeing them working conditions that are commensurate with their missions, throughout Europe.
